About Us& Sol’s History
Sol began meeting in March of 2001 with the goal of forming a permanent Troupe of members. It is under the artistic leadership of Robert Hooker who is the Founder and Producing Artistic Director for the company. Robert has had a long personal and professional association with both south Florida’s theaters and academia. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and received his Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre at Florida Atlantic University in 1989. Since then, he has worked with local area theatres as a director, actor, technical director, stage manager, and designer for adult and children’s productions prior to founding Sol Theatre Project . He has also taught Theatre at Broward Community College, Florida Atlantic University, and Delgado Community College in New Orleans.
The organizational management is under the expert and scrupulous supervision of Tony Priddy. Tony and Robert met in 1999, and their idea of starting a business that would combine their talents of creativity, organization, and business management is finally coming to fruition. It is with relief and joy that the artistic team of Sol has Tony to keep their wild ideas in check and properly organized. Tony has held various computer and project management positions for over 20 years at IBM (International Business Machines) as well as currently with NCCI (National Council of Compensation Insurance) corporation.
The technical expertise and directorship of the company falls in the capable hands of Jim Gibbons, who is also a most capable actor. Robert and Jim met while acting for Dog and Pony Theatre in New Orleans back in 1990, (another century) and have been great friends and colleagues ever since. Jim has held various academic, business, and theatrical positions for over 30 years including locally as Scenic Carpenter for Hollywood playhouse, Technical Director for Gold Coast Opera, and currently as the Scenic Carpenter for one of South Florida’s most respected Regional Theatres, Florida Stage in Manalapan. |
